How to Make USB Pen Drive Bootable?


I still remembered few months back, a friend of mine asked me to repair her Windows. The problem was her CD-ROM was not functioning. Therefore, I couldn’t boot from the Windows XP bootable CD. I did think about copying the file from the XP cd to my pen drive and boot from my USB pen drive. But how can I booted from my USB pen drive when the pen drive itself was not bootable? That’s a few months old story.

If today my friend comes again to me with the same problem, I will be happy to help because now I know how to make USB pen drive bootable. MakeBootable is a freeware application that turns your USB pen drives into a bootable media with just a single click. This nifty utility makes your pen drive to be bootable without erasing any data in the USB device.





MakeBootable consists of a single executable file and requires no installation. To use MakeBootable, run the MakeBootable executable file. On the main window, select the USB device you wish to make bootable. Click on the “Make Bootable” button to begin the process. The program will load several files required for boot up into your device.

Next, you need to change the boot-up setting in the system BIOS. With your USB device still plugged, restart your system. Enter the BIOS setup menu and change the boot device setting. Select USB Device as First Boot device in the boot device priority. If the boot-up files are created in the USB drive, select USB-HDD or USB-ZIP (preferred). If the boot-up files are created in the floppy drive of your device, select USB-FDD (for pen drive that supports security mode).

Once done, save and exit the BIOS setup. Now, you should be able to boot up with your USB device.

MakeBootable run perfectly on Windows 98, ME, 2000 and XP.

Note : Before running MakeBootable, if your USB pen drive is under FAT32 and NTFS file system format, you need to convert the format to FAT. MakeBootable does not support FAT32 and NTFS file systems.

Increase your RAM by Increasing system speed

1). Start any application, say Word. Open some large documents.



2). Press CTRL+SHIFT+ESC to open Windows Task Manager and click Processes tab and sort the list in descending order on Mem Usage. You will notice that WINWORD.EXE will be somewhere at the top, using multiple MBs of memory.
3). Now switch to Word and simply minimize it. (Don’t use the Minimize All Windows option of the task bar).
4). Now go back to the Windows Task Manager and see where WINWORD.EXE is listed. Most probably you will not find it at the top. You will typically have to scroll to the bottom of the list to find Word. Now check out the amount of RAM it is using. Surprised? The memory utilization has reduced by a huge amount.
5). Minimize each application that you are currently not working on by clicking on the Minimize button & you can increase the amount of available RAM by a substantial margin. Depending upon the number and type of applications you use together, the difference can be as much as 50 percent of extra RAM.
In any multitasking system, minimizing an application means that it won’t be utilized by the user right now. Therefore, the OS automatically makes the application use virtual memory & keeps bare minimum amounts of the code in physical RAM.

How To: Post A Status Longer Than 420 characters

Has your status ever been too complicated to describe in less than 420 characters? The maximum length of a status update on Facebook is currently 420 characters. If you exceed that number you will get this annoying error message:

“Status updates must be less than 420 characters. You have entered 804 characters here. Notes can be much longer. Would you like to edit and post your update as a Note instead?”


Sometimes you may have a lot to say but you don’t want to post it in a note.

How it works:

All you have to do is “Upload a Photo” instead of sharing a status.





Step 1: Simply grab a photo off your hard drive, any photo you want to accompany your extremely long status update.

Step 2: Once you select your photo, you can write as much as you want! Part of your message will be covered up by a “See More” link, but its better than nothing.

Fix Corrupt Files In Windows XP and Windows 7

Hello friends, these tips is for all those who have windows XP and windows 7 and those wants to fix their corrupted files in windows XP and in windows 7. My computer also had been suffered from this kind of problem and I maintained it through the help of following tips. Well this is a good and full proof way to fix corrupt file.

Process:

In Windows XP

1. At first you need have a XP CD to solve this problem.

2. Now, place or put that CD in your CD or DVD drive.

3. Go to Start button.

4. Go to Run

5. And in the Run command type “SFC / SCANNOW“.

6. This process should fix your corrupt.

7. Now, boot from your windows XP CD, then ignore the first repair option you get by pressing the R and when it shows you windows XP is already installed then you will see Repair option, select it and just start and repair it. it won’t affect any of installed software from your system.

Note: You could also attempt a defragment of your hard drive, as fragmentations of files can sometimes produce errors.

In windows 7

This tricks is as same as a process of windows XP. Here it is.

1. At first, go and turn on your system means your computer.

2. Then before open your windows, login as Administrator.

3. Click start and go to All programs.

4. Go to Accessories.

5. After that right click on command prompt and select “Run as Administrator“.

6. Now, just type “SFC/SCANNOW” in the command prompt and hit or press the enter button.





7. Now, it will take several minutes to scan for damaged systems files and verifies its integrity

8. Don’t panic. Wait till the process of scanning is 100% or fully complete.




9. After the process finished, close out the command prompt window and reboot your system.

Note: Both process are seems same, but there is some different uses of command so, be careful while doing it and use the command correctly.

For pc to boost faster than it is nowww.........

A great new feature in Microsoft Windows XP is the ability to do a boot defragment. This places all boot files next to each other on the disk to allow for faster booting.
By default this option is enabled,but on some systems it is not, so below is the information on how to turn it on:
Go to Start Menu and Click RunType in regedit then click okFind "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftDfrgBootOpt imizeFunction" Select "Enable" from the list on the rightRight on it and select "Modify"Change the value to Y . Reboot your Pc and see the change yourself.

Short cut for shutdown and Restart on desktop

On the desktop right click ----> New----> shortcut .
In the location area type (without quotes) "shutdown -r" to reboot, "shutdown -l" to logout, "shutdown -s" to shutdown.
In the name for the shortcut type in any name you are comfortable with e.g SHUTDOWN or RESTART etc.
Click Finish and its done.
Now double-click the icon created to perform the actions

Change the folder of c drive in my computer

All the Xp users would have been bored by the boring icons in their My Computer panel which are adjacent to the Hard disk drives(C:,D: or whatever drive letter you have).

Here is a simple tweak by which you will be able to change this monotonous icon to anything you like,even your own Picture if you wish

You can put any image in place of one which I have shown,even the picture of your favourite celebrity or your dream caror your own Picture.

Here are the steps you need to follow:


1.First of all the picture you want to use should have .ico extension(if you already have a pic with .ico extension proceed to step 2).Most of the pictures we normally use have extensions like .jpg,.bmp,.png..gif etc, so you first need to convert them to one with .ico extension.This is simple.Just go here and put your original image in the 'Source Image 'section,then click on 'Generate Favicon.ico ' button to get your image with .ico extension.

2.Now go to My Computer.Suppose you want to put this icon in place of your original C: image.

Double click and enter C: .Paste your .ico image file in it.Also create a new text file and in it type the following lines:
[autorun]
ICON=favicon.ico

Remember that 'favicon.ico' in the second line is the name of your image file.If you have an image file with .ico extension by the name of 'abc.ico',then use that in the second line in place of 'favicon.ico'.

3.Now rename this text file as ' autorun.inf ' (without the quotes).

Important Note:How do I rename my text file as autorun.inf ?Ans.Go to Tools->Folder options.Under the View tab uncheck the 'Hide extensions for known file types'.Press apply.Now rename your text file as 'autorun.inf'.

4.Now restart your Pc.You are done.Check out the cool new picture you have just added in your My computer panel.

Use the Notepad as your personal diary

There is a simple feature in Notepad that can make it work like a personal diary for you.Here is how to go about it:

1.Firstly open a blank Notepad file.
2. Now write .LOG as the first line in the file, then press enter. Now save the file and close it.
3.Open the notepad file now and you will find that the current date and time has been
appended (put) at the end and the cursor is in the next line.
4. Type your notes and then save and close the file.
5. Each time you open the file, Notepad repeats the process,that is it appends the date and time
to the end of the file and places the cursor below it

Use pc as an alarm

Now this is specially for the ones who are too lazy to get up even when the trust cellphone dies screeching its lungs out. Its pretty simple Creating the playlist create a playlist of your favourite songs in Winamp, WMP or any other player. Export the playlist as a M3U playlist. M3U is generally accepted by almost every player. Triggering the alarm point to start> programs >accessories > system tools >scheduled tasks Create a new task and choose program as windows media player or winamp (May work with others too but I haven't tried anything else) Choose "daily", Enter the time and choose "every day" at next screen. It would now ask for password (leave blank in case you don't have one) Right click on the newly created task and check the "run only if logged in" check box. In the properties. Append the path to the playlist you created in the "run" text box. It should now look like Code:

Keeping the Windows XP Core in the RAM

If you have 512 MB or more of RAM, you can increase system performance by having the Windows XP 'Core' kept in the RAM instead of paged on the hard disk.

Go to Start -> Run - Type regedit and press enter - On the left hand side tree, navigate to

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management\

- On the list on the right side, look for an entry called 'DisablePagingExecutive'
- Double click it
- Press 1 on your keyboard
- Click OK
- Exit regedit and reboot the computer

To revert to the default setting, follow the same steps as above, but this time, press 0(zero) instead of 1 on the keyboard.

How to password protect a PowerPoint presentation?

You can say it is very attractive and proper way to present the ideas to others. In office network your computer can be accessed by any other user and made some undesirable changes to it. You can prevent this by protecting your document by applying password so that unauthorized person can not display as well as modify your document.



Password to open the document:

If it is applied then you have to give the correct password to open the document, otherwise you cannot open the document.

If it is applied then you have to give the correct password to modify the document, otherwise your document is opened but you cannot modify the document. It means that your document becomes read-only.




To apply a password to your PowerPoint presentation, follow these steps.

Block any website without any softwares

if you want to block any website without any softwares, this tricks will be great for you.


Follow the Simple Steps.


Open My Computer and paste this in the address bar or you may browse C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc , you will find the file named "HOSTS"
Click it... Open it in notepad and go to the end of the page
You will find "127.0.0.1 localhost" Add 127.0.0.2 www.gmail.com below "127.0.0.1 localhost" , and save it (Next line) and that site will be blocked.
That's all...


NOTE : IF you want, not to block it... just deleted the line you wrote... eg: just delete "127.0.0.2 www.gmail.com" in this case

Oooohhh.... DO you want to BLOCK MORE THAN ONE SITES , here is the tricks

You have to just add "1" to the last number in the internal ip . and paste it below the first one you added.

ie:

127.0.0.2 www.gmail.com
127.0.0.3 www.rediffmail.com
127.0.0.4 www.mail.yahoo.com
127.0.0.5 www.mail.com

and so on..... (one by one)

And To remove them simple delete the lines and left the file as it was.

This also works with banner sites, just find the host name of the server with the banners and repeat the process.

Search Google with these techniques

site: domain restricts search results to the given domain.

allinurl: shows only pages with all terms in the url.

inurl: like allinurl, but only for the next query word.

allintitle: shows only results with terms in title.

intitle: similar to allintitle, but only for the next word. "intitle:webmasterworld google" finds only pages with webmasterworld in the title, and google anywhere on the page.

related:url same as "what's related" on serps.

cache:url will show the Google version of the passed url.

maps: If you enter a street address, a link to Yahoo Maps and to MapBlast will be presented.

phone: enter anything that looks like a phone number to have a name and address displayed. Same is true for something that looks like an address (include a name and zip code)

Make the folder INVISIBLE without hiding

1)Right Click on the desktop.Make a new folder
2)Now rename the folder with a space(U have to hold ALT key and type 0160).
3)Now u have a folder with out a name.
4)Right click on the folder>properties>customize. Click on change icon.
5)Scroll a bit, u should find some empty spaces, Click on any one of them.
click ok

Create Hidden Admin Account in XP

Since we are going to do all the Editing in Window Registry it is Recommended to Back Up the Registry before going Further. After you have Backed up your registry follow the Steps to Create your Hidden Account:
First Goto Start -> Run -> Type regedit -> Enter
In the Left Menu goto,
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\SpecialAccounts\UserList
In the Right pane, Right click -> New -> String Value
Right click on the new String Value and click Rename
Type the Name of the Account you want to hide.
Hit Enter then Right click on the String Value again and Change Value to 0 which hides it. If you want it to be Visible to all Enter the Value 1.
Now Save and Exit the Registry and Logoff.
Goto welcome screen and Hit ctrl+alt+del twice to bring up Logon prompt
Type hidden Accounts name and password
Enjoy!!!
